The question is, why was she surprised? Hadn’t she witnessed how Musk treated his exes in the past? She betrayed her principles by being with a man who didn’t align with the ideology she had promoted to fans for years. When he betrayed her and used his resources against her, she then sought sympathy from the same fans. She chose to have children with a man who denied his eldest child’s transition and was called out by that child as an absentee father. But when things didn’t go her way and Musk’s power was turned against her, she tried to play the victim.
In my opinion, when Musk came under fire for the Nazi salute, she asked people not to involve her in his actions. But when you have three children with someone who has never really hidden their intentions and motives, you do bear some responsibility to distance yourself from their actions. She still tweets as if she cares about the world while seemingly reluctant to firmly state that she doesn’t support the problematic statements her ex regularly makes online.
Her attitude towards her fans also leaves something to be desired. Her tweets give off an affected, coy, and somewhat insincere vibe. She thanks her fans for sticking with her despite her actions, almost as if it’s some kind of trial for them. And she sometimes posts things that confuse people about her true feelings towards Musk. One moment she’ll lament about how he’s using his assets to bully her legally, and the next she’ll post about being proud of his gaming skills. It’s as if she can’t make up her mind about whether she wants to distance herself from him or remind people of their relationship.
As an adult, she has the right to make her own choices, but what’s frustrating is that she actively chose to date someone who contradicted all the morals she claimed to uphold. This moral back-and-forth isn’t just annoying; it’s tiresome and transparent. If she were mature enough to acknowledge her actions and say, “Yes, I changed my mind about capitalism, imperialism, and willingly had three children with a man who represented things I once opposed,” it would be more acceptable. She needs to stop presenting herself as a progressive alternative artist and accept that she’s not so different from others she once tried to distinguish herself from. We all see the truth about her now, so let’s stop pretending she’s somehow better than the father of her children.
