True Crime Fans On ‘Edge Of Their Seats’ After Watching Chilling New Documentary
Viewers say they were left on the ‘edge of their seats’ after watching a chilling new true crime documentary.
A chilling docuseries exploring a 30-year-old mystery has left a lasting impact on viewers.
Discussing the program online, one person writes: “I just watched this. This case goes back in my mind. One of the first cases to stick with me since I’ve been a true crime fan.”
“I just watched the entirety of this doc, and wow, I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. The 30-year-old emotional rollercoaster,” another viewer adds.
“I could feel the anxiety, the heartbreak, the worry, all through the screen. It was incredibly well produced,” a third says.
The docuseries delves into the mysterious disappearance of TV news anchor Jodi Huisentruit, who was just 27 years old at the time.
The news anchor, who was best known for leading KIMT’s morning newscast, disappeared on June 27, 1995, while on her way to work in Mason City, Iowa.
After failing to show up for the morning news coverage, the team at KIMT called the police for a wellness check.
Initially, police didn’t believe foul play was involved until they discovered a number of her personal items, such as earrings, high heels, a blow dryer, and hair spray, were scattered across the floor.
An unidentified handprint was also discovered on her car.
Maria Awes, the executive producer of the true crime doc, said: “We were really given some extraordinary access here to really see what it is like to work a lead in this case.
“For those who have followed this case, I promise there is a lot of new information in here that has not been out there.”
“I mean this is a this is an active case for Mason City Police, and it always has been. There is nothing that they want to do more than solve this case and bring some justice here,” Awes concluded.
During the doc, they visit KIMT today, where viewers see the crew at her desk, which they described as like a ‘time capsule.’
The producers hope that Her Last Broadcast: The Abduction of Jodi Huisentruit brings attention to this mysterious case and reaches the right person who could hold the key to solving it.
As of 2025, over 30 years after her disappearance, the Mason City police and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation are still looking into Huisentruit’s disappearance.
