Police Issue Update After Fashion Designer Found Dead As More Devastating Details Emerge

A popular New York fashion designer was found dead at an upscale Hamptons boat club on Tuesday (July 5).

The body of Manhattan fashion designer Martha Nolan was found at around midnight onboard the Montauk Yacht Club, after onlookers had tried to save her.

But despite their best attempts to resuscitate the 33-year-old, she was later pronounced dead by Suffolk County police.

Nolan was originally from Ireland, but moved to the U.S. at 26.

She began her career by launching design company East x East with business partner Dylan Grace.

Taking to Instagram, her co-founder shared a heartbreaking tribute.

He wrote: “We dreamed big together, laughed harder than anyone else could understand and built so much for nothing.

“I’m truly blessed and grateful to have had you in my life.

“Love you so much Martha, fly high girl.”

Police are yet to reveal an official cause of death for Nolan, after the results of a preliminary examination were deemed ‘inconclusive.’

Her brand East x East was a luxury brand for sunglasses, swimwear, and resort wear.

And just last month she posted a clip on her TikTok, of her East x East pop-up shop at Gurney’s Montauk Resort & Seawater Spa, less than 10km from the yacht club.

The spa resort have since issued a statement which reads: “We are deeply saddened by the tragic news regarding Martha Nolan and extend our sincere condolences to her family and loved ones.

“While Martha was not an employee of Gurney’s, we were proud to host her East x East pop-up and admired her entrepreneurial spirit and creative vision.”

It’s been alleged that violent crime of any kind is rare in Montauk, and the yacht club has long been an institution there.

And the police noted that her body ‘did not show evidence of violence.’

It’s clear that Martha was a passionate businesswoman, previously explaining the inspiration behind her brand on TikTok.

She said: “Our tagline is ‘Built in the city, made for the sun.’

“And I think it resonates with so many people on so many levels because at some point, everyone in their lives is grinding, but everyone’s destined for the sun.”

But despite making the leap to move to the U.S., the 33-year-old still described herself as a ‘small town girl.’

An earlier statement from Suffolk County police said East Hampton officers “responded to a 911 call from a man reporting a woman unconscious on a boat docked at the Montauk Yacht Club, on Star Island Road, at approximately 12am.”

The fashion designer was from a part of Ireland called Carlow, and the local councillor, Fergal Browne, said his thoughts and prayers are with her family.

He said: “The death of a young woman with her life cut short and who did have years ahead of her makes this so heartbreaking.

“Martha is from a long-established and highly respected farming family. It is so devastating for them all.”
