Netflix Horror Is So Scary People Are ‘Seeing Demons Out Of The Corner Of Their Eyes’
A Netflix horror has been branded so scary that people have suggested the writers were ‘on drugs’ when they created the concept.
If terrifying horrors that make you see demons of your own are your kind of thing, you’re in the right place.
Because one Netflix horror has been branded that scary, people are losing sleep.
The film stars Kelly Reilly, Charlie Shotwell, and Stranger Things actor Sadie Sink.
It follows a young boy with an autoimmune disorder that prohibits him from interacting with the outside world.
Consequently, he is locked inside of a special plastic suit.
In an attempt to escape his insular world, his parents take him to a remote facility that enable shim to step outside of his suit for the first time ever.
He’s able to physically interact with other people – all while undergoing mysterious experiments that the doctor claims will heal him.
Of course, things take a turn for the worst.
The boy begins to experience supernatural visions and starts to believe all is not what it seems.
And people online can’t stop raving about the horror.
One viewer said: “I just watched on Netflix and I SWEAR I’m seeing demons out of the corner of my eyes – HELP!”
Another added: “Man, this movie is crazy af.”
A third noted: “He starts off as your stereotypical bubble boy meets haunted house with evil spirits thrown in.
“But the writers must have done HELLA drugs towards the end of writing the script because the last 20 minutes are a rollercoaster of bats*** insanity!”
The film was originally made for release in cinemas by Paramount Pictures, but was bought by Netflix prior to its release in December 2018.
It was reported at the time that Paramount couldn’t decide how to market the film.
But despite glowing reviews from viewers, The Guardian‘s report didn’t paint such a great picture of the horror.
Critique Benjamin Lee wrote: “The film is scattered with a number of familiar horror sequences, from a couple of nasty dreams to some extended jump scares, but none of them really land.
“It’s a film more suited to the small screen, where audience members can multi-task, perhaps even search for something better to watch next.”
Ouch.
Eli was eventually released on Netflix in 2019, and has a score of 52 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.
Speaking about the horror with Rue Morgue, director Ciarán Foy said: “For me, what drew me to the story was the freshness of it.
“I read it at three in the morning in one sitting, and – you know, we’ve seen a lot of haunted house stories, and you look for an angle that feels unique.
“Straight away, this had stakes and empathy, literally because of Eli, this boy in a bubble, who you feel for.
“It already has a tension to it, because they need to find a cure for this kid.”
