In a recent social media announcement, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) revealed her plan to “Save America’s elections” by changing the census to only count United States citizens. She indicated that she’s already discussed the plan with President Trump.
For context, until the presidency of Barack Obama, every census counted only citizens. Since the census determines how many representatives each state is assigned in Congress, counting illegal immigrants allows blue states such as California to wield extraordinary power in the House.
In any case, MTG took to X, formerly Twitter, on June 30, 2025, to say, “I just got off the phone with President Trump!! I told him about my new bill I am introducing that will save America’s elections from ever being stolen again!”
Digging into the details, she said, “My bill will require the U.S. Census Bureau to conduct a new census immediately upon enactment of the bill. In conducting the new census of the U.S. population, it shall require questions determining the citizenship of each individual, and count US citizens only.”
Explaining the significance of election integrity, she, MTG added, “Upon completion of the census, the bill will direct states to immediately begin a redistricting of all U.S. House seats process using only the population of United States citizens.”
Concluding her remarks, she thanked Trump for supporting her bill and tied it to his America First agenda, saying, “Thank you, President Trump, for your strong support of my bill, Making American Elections Great Again!!! Let’s get this done!!!”
In the comments under her post, conservatives offered support for the new bill. One such comment said, “This is so so so so so so so important MTG. Please make it happen. This could save our country for decades. Then we can tackle the other issues like debt, deficit, etc. Please make this happen. This could be one of the most influential pieces of legislation in American history,” adding, “Also, please introduce a bill to repeal the Hart-Celler Act of 1965. We need to shut off the spigot of 3rd world immigration. It is destroying our country.”

Echoing these remarks, another conservative wrote, “This bill is a common-sense solution to ensure elections reflect the will of American citizens only, not non-citizens. By counting citizens for redistricting, we protect our democracy and prevent potential vote dilution, something the 14th Amendment’s framers never intended. It’s time to prioritize legal voters!”
Leaning on Republican leadership to get MTG’s new bill passed, a commenter said, “@HouseGOP @SenateGOP THIS should be your very first priority after the BBB people!!! No one who is not a U.S. citizen should be ‘represented’ by anyone let alone people that have broken into the country illegally. This is ridiculous it needs to be done at all…..make it happen.”
Rounding out the comments, one user offered encouragement to the Georgia Republican, saying, “Fantastic bill! Counting only citizens for redistricting is key to #ElectionIntegrity. Thank you, President Trump, for your support—let’s get it done! #MAGA 🇺🇸.” Offering more context, another comment read, “Starting with the very first census under George Washington, asking about citizenship was standard practice. What happened to make Obama the first president in American history to break this tradition? 🤔”
