House Of Cards Star Has Died
A House of Cards star has tragically died.
The political thriller TV series, created by Beau Willimon, was based on the 1989 novel of the same name, and also an adaptation of the 1990 British series of the same name.
Throughout its run from 2013 to 2018, House of Cards received highly positive reviews and numerous award nominations, including 33 Primetime Emmy Award nominations.
Now, fans of the show are paying tribute following the saddening news that one its stars has passed away.
Praising the star’s acting, one writes: “What a range.”
Detroit native Dan Ziskie was recognized for portraying government officials during his long career.
Such roles included the recurring Vice President Jim Mathews in House of Cards, U.S. senators on CBS’ Person of Interest in 2012, and as the U.S. attorney general of NBC’s The Blacklist in 2014.
His big screen roles included Robert Altman’s O.C. and the Stiggs (1985), Chris Columbus’ Adventures in Babysitting (1987), Roger Donaldson’s Thirteen Days (2000), and Charles Kaufman’s Synecdoche, New York (2008).
Ziskie was also recognized for his appearances in shows such as ER, The Practice, S** and the City, Law and Order: Criminal Intent, Ugly Betty, Gossip Girl, and Blue Bloods.
Chappelle’s Show fans will know the actor for his 2004 turn as the dad.
Born on August 13, 1944, Ziskie was recognized for his track and football skills in high school. He lettered in relay races at the University of Michigan, where he received his bachelor’s degree in English.
He briefly worked as a journalist before joining the Second City comedy troupe, alongside stars such as John Belushi and Joe Flaherty in the early 1970s.
He began serving as an understudy in 1980 in the Broadway revival of Paul Osborn’s Morning’s at Seven. He then became a replacement actor in the original production of Herb Gardner’s 1985-88 comedy I’m Not Rappaport.
In the mid-1980s, Zieskie’s acting career took off when he found work on Remington Steele and The Equalizer, among others titles.
The actor was also passionate about photography, with an eclectic collection of New York street photography, titled ‘Cloud Chamber,’ being published in October 2017.
“I am drawn to take photos of people more than anything else,” he said (per The Hollywood Reporter). “You cannot walk the streets, especially here in New York City, without having faces and lives almost force you to pay attention to them.”
Ziskie died of arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease in New York on July 21, his family announced. He was 80 years old.
“Dan was a man of remarkable talent and a keen observer of life,” they said. “He was as vibrant and multifaceted as the characters he portrayed on stage and screen.”
The actor is survived by his brother, David, his sister-in-law, Cynthia, and his nephews, Jesse, Brett, and Austin, and their six children.
