In a horrifying slew of details released back in the spring of 2025 by the House Judiciary Committee, it was revealed that the Federal Bureau of Investigation had acted quickly to shut down the Hunter Biden “laptop from Hell” story, imposing a gag order on the agent that found out what was really going on and engaging in a coordinated information campaign to suppress the truth about the laptop.
As background, the New York Post ran the laptop story in an “October Surprise” that could have seriously damaged the Biden campaign in the important final stages of the 2020 election, but social media sites engaged in a coordinated crackdown that covered it up, a move that Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg said that he regrets.
In fact, according to the horrifying, if not overly surprising, internal communications released by the House Judiciary Committee, it was revealed that the FBI quickly imposed a “gag order” on the NY Post story about the laptop nearly as soon as it came out. That move came despite the FBI having the laptop, and thus the truth about it.
By far the most horrifying aspect of the story, at least as revealed by the House Judiciary Committee, is that there was an FBI agent who tried to reveal the truth about the files, but he was shut down and shut up by his bosses, who silenced him with a gag order, a fact revealed by the internal FBI chat logs.
Describing the incident, the House Judiciary Committee wrote, “The FBI’s campaign to discredit the Post story continued even after it was published on October 14, 2020. That morning, one FBI analyst tried to tell Twitter that the laptop was real—until his bosses shut him up.” It continued, “The Committee had testimony from key FBI personnel, but until now, the FBI refused to produce the internal communications from that day in unclassified form for the American public to see.”
Then, getting to the crux of the matter, the committee revealed: “An internal FBI chat log newly obtained by the Committee shows the FBI deliberately withheld information about the FBI having Hunter Biden’s laptop and an ongoing criminal investigation involving the Biden family’s corruption: ‘do not discuss biden matter.’”
It gets worse. The agent was not only told to be quiet but also formally prevented from revealing the truth and admonished by FBI superiors for being committed to the truth, despite the fact that the FBI’s misleading statements to tech companies were lies and heavily politicized in a way that aided Biden while proving dangerous to the sitting president.

Describing what happened to the agent who tried speaking out about the truth, the House Judiciary Committee explained, “The internal FBI chat log also shows how far senior FBI officials went to silence this analyst. After the meeting, a senior FBI lawyer put a ‘gag order’ on the analyst” and “The analyst was also ‘admonished’ by FBI staff, who lamented that he still wouldn’t ‘shut up.’”
Concluding the story, the House Judiciary Committee explained that it was that coordinated crackdown on the truth inside the FBI that ensured the story was censored for incorrect reasons, saying, “With the truth-telling analyst given a ‘gag order; and the FBI refusing the comment, Big Tech censored the Post story because the FBI had, for months, led them to believe it was Russian disinformation and had withheld the fact that the FBI was in possession of the laptop.”
