Amber Heard Announces New Career Move After Changing Her Name And Moving Continents
Amber Heard has announced a new career move after she changed her name and moved continents.
The Aquaman actress has made a triumphant return to the spotlight with a bold new career direction.
It marks her first major professional move since relocating to Spain and adopting a new identity following her highly publicized legal battles with ex-husband Johnny Depp.
Heard’s move represents more than just a career pivot – it’s part of a complete life transformation that began after her 2022 defamation trial.
The actress has built a new life in Madrid, where she is raising her daughter, Oonagh Paige, born in 2021, and twins Agnes and Ocean, whom she welcomed earlier this year, in May.
The 39-year-old actress has officially transitioned from Hollywood films to the theater stage, recently completing a critically acclaimed run in Jeremy O. Harris’ groundbreaking play Spirit of the People at the Williamstown Theatre Festival in Massachusetts, per Hello.
Heard’s journey back to acting began in June when she announced her casting in the ambitious theatrical production, sharing an Instagram photo with playwright Jeremy O. Harris and declaring herself to be ‘in my theater era.’
The announcement marked her first professional acting commitment since her 2023 films In the Fire and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
The timing of her theater debut proved serendipitous, as the play is performed half in Spanish – a language Heard became fluent in during her time living in Madrid, Spain’s capital, where she relocated in fall 2022.
According to reports, the actress has been living under the pseudonym Martha Jane Cannary, referencing the legendary Old West figure Calamity Jane, while focusing on raising her three children away from the Hollywood spotlight.
Heard’s professional theatrical debut has garnered widespread critical praise.
Vanity Fair‘s Juan A. Ramirez described her performance as ‘eloquent and beautiful,’ noting that she ’embodies the fragility and resilience of a classic Tennessee Williams heroine.’
The review particularly highlighted her ‘command of the stage, exceptional, particularly for someone in her professional theatrical debut.’
Spirit of the People, which ‘confronts uncomfortable truths about land and what it means to destroy it,’ featured Heard alongside a diverse cast including Brandon Flynn, Ato Blankson-Wood, Zachary Booth, and Amandla Jahava.
Her portrayal of the character Genevieve served as one of the production’s ‘three emotional anchors’ in what critics described as a ‘rangy, often surreal play.’
Following the conclusion of her theatrical run over the weekend, Heard shared a heartfelt message with fans on social media, posting a photo of herself surrounded by bouquets of flowers in her dressing room.
“Thank you to all of my fans and supporters for making this already unforgettable weekend so much more beautiful,” she wrote. “The flowers won’t last forever, but the memories of all the love and support I received through this will.”
One fan commented: “Congratulations on an incredibly successful run with your play! It was an honor and a privilege to have the opportunity to see you perform and I can’t wait to see what you do next!”
While Heard’s IMDb page currently shows no upcoming film or television projects, her successful return to performance through theater suggests she may be charting a new course in the entertainment industry.
Her fluency in Spanish, developed during her time in Madrid, opens doors to international theater opportunities and reflects her commitment to this new artistic direction.
Playwright Jeremy O. Harris, who specifically chose to write Spirit of the People half in Spanish despite not speaking the language himself, praised the challenge of the multilingual production.
