Netflix Fans Hooked On Gripping Crime Thriller They’re Calling ‘Best Movie Of The Year’
Netflix viewers are hooked on a brand-new crime thriller, which some fans have said is ‘not for the faint-hearted.’
A new crime thriller has been called the ‘best film of the year’ and Netflix viewers can’t get enough.
The thriller is based on a 2021 Willy Vlautin novel, and arrived on the streaming platform of August 15.
It follows the story of Lynette, a woman who plunges into a desperate and increasingly dangerous all-night search to raise $25,000, after facing eviction in a city her family can no longer afford.
Director Benjamin Caron has described the story as ‘urgent and visceral,’ starring and produced by Emmy and Oscar nominee Vanessa Kirby.
Speaking to Tudum, the director said: “What drew me to the film was its exploration of survival and sacrifice and the idea of quiet heroism.
“It asks the question, ‘Who gets to feel safe, and at what cost?’”
The film was shot in Portland, Oregon, and stars Jennifer Jason Leigh, Zack Gottsagen, Stephan James, Julia Fox, Eli Roth, Randall Park, and Michael Kelly.
Describing the main character, Caron says: “Lynette is driven by a desperate need for security, for the idea of home as much as, I guess, the reality of it.
“Yet she is haunted by the fear that she doesn’t deserve it.
“Her journey is a study in propulsion. Each decision, no matter how reckless, is an attempt to outrun her past and carve out a future.”
The filmmaker also noted why Vanessa was the right person to portray the story of Lynette.
He added: “Vanessa brings a beautifully wild energy to Lynette, making the character unpredictable and deeply, deeply human.
“Together, we worked on creating a character who is simply not just reacting to the world, but desperately trying to wrest control of her future, even as she teeters on the edge of self-destruction.”
And fans who have watched the film, Night Always Comes, have had nothing but good things to say.
One viewer wrote: “This is as gripping as a thriller can get!
“It also comes with superb emotional depth towards the end.
“Of course, a woman having to do really tough and scary stuff is always particularly intriguing. And that’s what you get with this movie.”
Another said: “I have to say this film is not for the faint of heart due to complex nature of what happens when desperation to survive and hope come together.
“While some people may dismiss this, give it a bad score, say there is always a way around these circumstances with ease, have probably never experienced desperation.
“In the end millions of people get lost or ignored in a system that sees them as an inconvenience rather than human beings.
“Vanessa Kirby gave an amazing performance.”
