Why Is Donald Trump So Orange?

We may have the answer to why Donald Trump is orange.

The divisive president has consistently made headlines since his return to the Oval Office in January, and it has led many to ask why he’s so orange.

Not only have Trump’s controversial policies been under scrutiny, but his tanned complexion has also been a cause for concern.

The president’s skin tone has been mocked online and on television, with rumors about whether the 79-year-old has spray tans or uses makeup.

Trump has adamantly denied these claims, with an official insisting his vibrant complexion is solely down to ‘good genes.’

However, photo editor Emily Elsie believes there is a deeper meaning behind his tan.

In a series of Instagram Stories, she questioned: “Why is no one covering this very important data point?”

Elsie shared an image of Trump just after the first failed assassination attempt on him last year.

The editor wrote: “In July 2024, Donald Trump looked like this… And now he looks like this,” she added a more recent picture of Trump giving a speech.

She went on to say that at first she believed his extreme tan look was due to photo retouching, color balance by the photographer.

Elsie shared: “I noticed that Trump’s skin tone tended to oscillate wildly depending on lighting and the color palettes of the photographer.

“In a ‘cool’ light, Trump’s bronzer is less intense. A slightly warmer tone makes Trump’s ‘skin tone’ go crazy and orange.”

She’d initially believed his complexion choice to have been geared towards TV, as the cameras and bright lights can alter appearances, making flaws more noticeable and colors less vibrant.

Elise continued: “But lately, I feel like something more psychological is happening. When Trump took office in 2017, he was significantly less orange… but as his term wore on, more bronzer was applied.”

The photo editor theorizes that the more stressed Trump appears to be, the more makeup appears on his face.

Suggesting that when the star is out of the office, his makeup is often toned down.

“Then something interesting happened. After Trump debated with Biden in June 2024, the makeup all but disappeared,” the editor states. “When Trump was up in the polls, and a victory was all but certain, the bronzer was gone.”

Sharing a recently taken photo of Trump appearing darker in the face, she said: “Believe me when I tell you we’ve never seen him like this. Also, it appears he’s doing his hands now?”

The president has been spotted with makeup covering his hands for the last eight months, appearing to cover up bruises.

Trump and his office originally tried to downplay, stating the bruising was caused by shaking people’s hands all day.

It was later confirmed that the president has chronic venous insufficiency, a ‘benign and common’ condition that occurs when veins have trouble moving blood back to the heart.

Elise also noted his ‘mask’ of makeup tends to get ‘darker towards the end of his presidential campaigns.’

The editor suggests people stop making fun of his orange complexion, but instead suggests it’s a sign of Trump’s insecurity and his feeling trapped.

“He is acting just like we do when we are a) insulated b) insecure c) surrounded by pictures of ourselves,” Elise concludes.
