Ozzy Osbourne Has Died Aged 76
Ozzy Osbourne has died aged 76, just weeks after his farewell show.
The heavy metal rock star performed his final show with the band Black Sabbath to perform a farewell show.
The last concert took place at Villa Park in Birmingham, U.K., the city where Black Sabbath was born.
The 76-year-old opened the show with a short solo set, sat on a custom throne shaped like a bat.
Osbourne’s wild lifestyle and stage presence earned him the nickname ‘Prince of Darkness.’
Oshbourne rose to fame in the early 1970s as the lead vocalist of Black Sabbath, a pioneering heavy metal band.
He was known for hit records such as ‘Iron Man,’ ‘Paranoid,’ War Pigs,’ and ‘Changes,’ both with the band and in his solo career.
Having been fired from Black Sabbath in 1979 due to substance abuse issues, he launched a successful solo career.
His debut solo album, ‘Blizzard of Ozz,’ in 1980, which included hits such as ‘Crazy Train’ and ‘Mr. Crowley.’
The Osbourne family also found fame with their hit reality MTV show The Osbournes, which followed the crazy life of the rock family, with his wife, Sharon Osbourne.
Osbourne suffered from an array of health problems, including a fall in his LA home in 2019, which re-injured his back, neck, and shoulders, which were already damaged from a 2003 ATV accident.
The accident dislodged metal rods placed in his body from the earlier crash, leading to intense pain and nerve damage.
In 2020, Osbourne publicly revealed he had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, a progressive neurological condition that affects movement and coordination.
The singer had been battling the disease in private since 2019. The disease limited his mobility, caused tremors, and forced him to cancel and postpone many live performances.
In a statement, his family said: “It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love.”
The rockstar has made a forever-lasting impact in the music industry and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with Black Sabbath in 2006.
Oshbourne said of his last show that he was determined to give fans the ‘perfect farewell.’
He is survived by Sharon, and their children, Aimee, Kelly, and Jack, as well as his two older children, Jessica and Louis, from his first marriage to Thelma Riley, and grandchildren.
