NYU Club President’s Controversial Comment and Resignation

In mid-February, Vanity Fair published an article in which Kaya Walker, the president of NYU’s College Republican club, described Barron as “sort of like an oddity on campus. He goes to class, he goes home.” Her comment went viral after being shared by several large accounts. The post was seen by more than 9 million people. On February 18, Walker announced her resignation as president of the club. She later wrote an open letter about her resignation, stating that she must consider the health of the organization and apologized for the situation. In an interview with The New York Post, Walker said her remark was taken out of context and she regretted resigning. She also mentioned that Barron is “watched like a zoo animal,” emphasizing that she had no ill intent towards him as she had campaigned for his father.
