Nicole Kidman has shared the challenges she faced while filming intimate scenes in her new movie, “Babygirl.” The 57-year-old actress, who stars alongside Harris Dickinson in the A24 thriller, told on The Graham Norton Show that although the role pushed her out of her comfort zone, she was keen to take on something novel and bold.
In “Babygirl,” Kidman plays a high-powered businesswoman who risks her career and family life by having a passionate affair with her much younger intern, played by 28-year-old Harris Dickinson, known for “Triangle of Sadness” (2022). The film was written, directed, and produced by Halina Reijn. It was inspired by a story about a woman who hadn’t experienced an orgasm in her 25-year marriage. Reijn’s interest in exploring women’s relationships with their bodies drove her to create this sexy, dark, and unpredictable movie.
Kidman delivered an outstanding performance in the movie, smoothly shifting from outrage to fear and then to passionate, lustful consent. She said, “I love the script, and I’m always looking to push beyond my comfort zone. This role was something I had never explored before, and I’m always on a quest as an actor to discover new areas of myself.”

However, filming the movie wasn’t without personal hardships. When she won the Volpi Cup for Best Actress at the Venice Film Festival in 2024, she received tragic news. Just as she was arriving in Venice for the closing ceremony, she learned that her mother had passed away. She had to leave Italy immediately, and director Halina Reijn accepted the award on her behalf.
